What’s Mine is Yours: The Rise of Collaborative Consumption

My first assignment in one of my classes this year was to identify “Opportunity Spaces”; spaces that we feel have “rich opportunities to explore the subject material and create compelling products”. I believe that one such space is community sharing and lending.

Everyday, more and more companies are being created that allow people share, trade and give away things. zip car, and Neighboorgoods, Free Cycle to name a few, and the list keeps growing. It is definitely a space with rich opportunities to explore and create.

This morning I came across an up coming book which discusses this idea and calls it “Collaborative Consumption”. Here is a preview for it.

In “What’s Mine is Yours: The Rise of Collaborative Consumption” the authors explore the three systems in which people collaboratively consume (Shared usage, Swapping and Loaning) as well as why we are seeing this movement take off now.

You can pre-order on their website collaborativeconsumption.com.
